Demerit Points for Parking in Disabled Parking Space Illegally

1 Dec 2014Finally, harsher penalties are being set for those who illegally park in disabled parking spaces.
Now people will lose demerit points off their licence as well as have to pay a hefty fine of $519 if they don't have a sticker.

What I am happier with is the fine of $623 if people improperly use a disability car parking space by having the permit displayed in their car but not having the person named on the permit in the car with them.

This misuse of the permit is what I see, time and time again. Having a disabled parking permit does not give the driver or the car a right to park in the disabled car park just because they have access to a disabled parking permit and the spot is easy and convenient.

I hope this new law hurts the cheats and they realise the selfishness of their actions.

My tip: Don't park in disabled parking spaces unless you have someone with a disability in your car and they have a disabled parking permit.
