Can-Do-Ability: Answers and Solutions from my personal experiences of living with a disability

Andrew Hewitt - Australia's Most Inspirational Drummer

28 Jan 2010In the beginning of January this year, I interviewed a very inspirational man named Andrew Hewitt.

Andrew was born with Cerebral Palsy, he could walk with walking aids but he now requires the fulltime use of a wheelchair to get around in.

Andrew has a big passion - playing the drums. He has played in many gigs and appeared in magazines all over the world. He also enjoys working with childrens disability groups, teaching them how to discover rythm and play the drums.

The Sydney man has recently been married and is now facing new challenges of finding somewhere for him and his family to live, after being kicked out of his rental home of nine years. He has had little help from the Dept of Housing, even being told that people in wheelchairs are in the 'too hard basket' by a Dept of Housing employee, the real estate agencies haven't been much better.

To view our interview together, go to http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V3TVkoUtVeg

Andrew also has a dvd available with footage of him rocking out that is available to purchase at http://www.drummerstix.com.au - you can also learn more about Andrew's life and work here.
