Can-Do-Ability: Answers and Solutions from my personal experiences of living with a disability

"Rollin' Around The World With Zach Anner"

3 Mar 2011As I’m sure everyone in the whole world would know, Oprah Winfrey is one of the most successful women on the planet. But for anyone who has been living under a rock for decades, she has been the most victorious day time talk show host in history, with her rating busting program ”The Oprah Winfrey Show”.

The hit show began in 1986, but its 25 year stint is due to come to an end, later this year. However, this doesn’t mean Oprah will be transforming from talk show superstar to lady of leisure just yet.

Oprah’s production company has started up a new cable network featuring many lifestyle, health and wellbeing programs, called OWN (Oprah Winfrey Network), which launched in January this year. There was a reality style television competition that ran in the US through the OWN network, called ‘Your OWN Show’ – this saw thousands of Oprah fans competing against each other in the hope to be chosen as the winner. The winner would subsequently be the host of their own show, where they could share their passion, whatever that may be, with the world.

In a shocking twist, Oprah ended up picking two winners to host their own show; one of whom is Zach Anner, a young stand up comedian from Austin, Texas, who was born with Cerebral Palsy.

Zach captured the hearts of America with his comic styling’s and passion for travel, gaining over 9million votes from the public for his audition, which you can watch here: http://myown.oprah.com/audition/index.html?request=video_details&response_id=5615&promo_id=1

On the final episode of the reality series: 'Your OWN Show', Zach produced and pitched a pilot for his intended show called “Rollin’ Around the World with Zach Anner”. He has hopes to demonstrate that people can travel, even if they thought it wasn't possible.

His show will be filled with humour, as he travels around in his electric wheelchair, facing barriers and witty encounters with locals of the towns that he visits, which you can see from part of one of his episodes that I have included, entitled: Texas State Capitol - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kFv2ISLN8rM

Zach sure seems to have a huge support network behind him as he is already proving to be extremely popular with the public. I urge you to check Zach out now, and look out for him in the future because I’m positive you haven’t seen or heard the last of him, or his show: “Rollin’ Around the World with Zach Anner”....
